Unemployment

This is Kevin Comer with the Report, outlining the legal repercussions and resources for small businesses and individuals impacted financially by Covid 19. The Economic Policy Institute estimated that at least 3 million jobs will be lost by summer. While Congress is still discussing help, the best thing you can do now is file for unemployment with the State of Florida. This website outlines what you need to do to get unemployment benefits:

The short explanation of being eligible is that you need to be unemployed, to have lost your job through no fault of your own, and you must have been employed for a certain period in the prior 18 months.

In the past, certain jobs have not been eligible for unemployment. However, the current crisis is changing the parameters daily, so even if you think you are not eligible or not sure, go ahead and apply. It's a good idea to get your information into the system. Go to this website to file for unemployment:

There is a lot of paperwork for this, as for any government action. The website includes the list, so just go through the list, get everything ready, and apply. As always, if you have any questions contact me and I'll help. While many people are worried, a lot of relief measures are being discussed, so help is on the way. You can start by filing for unemployment. The documents required will likely be needed for the other measures so it is a good idea to get them together now.

Sincerely,
